gale is a merman that left the sea for tortuga after the death of nixie johnson–whom he considered to be his true love–and currently owns a pub where he also bar-tends. he would be glad to leave tortuga should anyone need him on their crew. he considers himself responsible for nixie's death, and hasn't even looked at a woman since he met her, so romance will be unlikely or if anything very difficult. he prefers to keep to himself nowadays, though in his youth he was rather social and daring. the right situation might bring out this part of him again.
