Shara’s mother was a slave and Shara was an affair baby with the Master. There was a missing piece in the story- Shara’s mother being a high voodoo priestess. She found she was with child, hexed the Master’s wife to fall in love with another man and run off. Suducing him into husbandry was even easier. Shara herself displayed strong signs of voodoo in her own early years. People she liked had good luck, enemies fell ill and dead spirits could communicate with her. This made Shara’s mother view her as a princess. She is the last Witch from her tribe and has a strong bloodline dating back a very long time.
She has a princess’s attitude. She is entitled, demanding, harsh and spoiled. Shara is powerful and knows it. She also was fawned over by her parents her entire life, so is a bit full of herself and high strung. Most of the negative traits of her personality were instilled by her over loving parents. Deep to her core Shara is a strong and just person who wants to change the world. Slavery pisses her off beyond belief and those who partake in it might come down with smallpox if she over hears. Her race is a taboo. Never bring it up. Nigger, half breed and slave baby are names to never utter around her. She is a snob and any type of degrading or humiliation will get a rise out of her.
It’s not like she waltzed into a perfect life and was born this powerful! She knew her father did not love her mother. His affairs were regular and accepted. Love is a unknown thing to Shara. She was pushed for weeks on end with spells, rituals and abilities and seyonces. It bordered abuse. Her mother pushed a lifetime of knowledge into a child’s mind. She was to conduct herself as a High Priestess all of the time. All others were below her. She had control. Needless to say, she grew up a little pompous.
At fifteen she fell in puppy love with a rich man’s son. He asked for her hand, her father approved. To them, they were going to have a life. Until the boy, Garret, asked for money to buy a ring. His father said he would never marry a negro. Garret planned to elope. His father, ever enraged, sent mercenaries in the form of privateers who were out of a boat, into the house to kill Master Hitt and his family and burn his manor. A crew of sixteen was sent.
Five returned. Between Shara and her mother, Shara’s life was saved. All of those magic lessons and swordplay sessions played off. But Shara was left homeless and parentless. She began telling fortunes and performing illusions and seyonce’s with a circus. This was below her, and she was very, very bitter about it. She had a bone to pick with some privateers. Then she found a much more lucrative business…
Pirates paid much money for blessings and curses and the removal of curses from treasure. She set up shop, and sometimes even accompanies them. She lives lavishly and goes out of her way to help the underdog and to hurt privateers. She comes at a lofty price, but she’s the best of the best. Charms, curses, illusions and fighting are strong points. She is moral with her work and plans to keep it that way, which isn’t hard considering her moral is a little askew.
She’ll come at a price, but she is one valuable, be it harsh, lady.
